The big news I have been alluding to is that The Malcontent has taken on a co-blogger: Robbie, also known as Prism Warden.
Those who have enjoyed reading Robbie's blog, like I have, already know him as a talented, witty and thoughtful new voice. So good, in fact, that I wanted to join forces with him, rather than compete for eyeballs. Plus, there was talk of boxed wine involved. (Note the passive voice.)
A Democrat who is a bit stuck between parties these days, Robbie should be a good complement to me, as a centrist and conflicted, but still registered, Republican.
In his own words, which are now on the "About" page, Robbie is:
A gay libertarian/centrist only slightly younger and less fabulous.
Growing up and living in Chicago has a wrought a Midwestern disdain for pretension and labels. People are who they are, and never more comfortable than when they are simply being themselves. A mixture of culture and trash, a nightlife of glitter maidens and Discovery Channel, a political philosophy of thinking instead of belonging, life is about variety and freedom, with no apologies for not being who others want you to be.
Robbie is a free-lance financial type, unqualified to advise or comment on anything not involving crayons or fingerpaint, which makes for a natural gravitation towards political and cultural punditry.
Robbie and I do not agree on all of the issues, but we are like-minded in our approaches. In my view, we both try to write with a twinkle in the eye, rather than the stridency that afflicts too many others. And we like to have fun, so we will blog about culture, entertainment and other things probably as often as politics.
All from a gay sensibility, of course.
Robbie's posts will begin with the little "R" on the left and will be labeled at the end as "Posted by Robbie," while mine will continue to use the stylized white-on-purple M ( ) and be labeled "Posted by The Malcontent."
I would add that we're doing this somewhat on a trial basis. He might decide that he is indeed "malcontent" with me and pack his bags. On the other hand, we could find a comfy blogging niche next to that other gay, right-leaning twosome.
Please help Robbie feel at home!
