Reversing Rosa: How Liberals Embraced Segregation

Compare:

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

With:

Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

Today, as we lay Rosa Parks to rest, we reflect on one woman's symbolic stand against the forces of segregation and intolerance. We remember the brave demand that all citizens deserve inclusion in the American ideal - that we are all equal, that we all have the right to life and liberty, that we all deserve the freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution regardless of skin color.

Today, in the name of politics, Democrats and the Left have thrown down the pillars of civil rights and appointed themselves corrupt guardians of intolerance, separatism, and ideological slavery.

Today, liberalism looms over society as the partisan motivated gate-keeper of segregation.

Most progressive ideologies exist in the beginning as well-intended advancements in society to attain a human ideal. In the case of the Civil Rights movement begun by Mrs. Parks, the ideal being put forward was full participation of racial minorities in American social, cultural, and economic life. The movement will have reached its final goal when skin color is no longer a determining factor in any aspect of American life, private and public, religious and secular, political and cultural.

The Democratic Party prides itself as the front-line warrior to attain this goal. How is it then, that liberal ideology has become nothing more than an electrified fence meant to pen minorities into an intellectually diminished sty of pre-approved thinking?

Condoleeza Rice, the most accomplished African-American in American government, is called a "house-nigger" by a white liberal with nary a cry of protest.

Clarence Thomas and other African-American conservatives are called Uncle Toms and worse by black organizations ostensibly for the advancement of minorities in American politics. Furthermore, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had this to say regarding the make-up of the Supreme Court:

In losing a woman, the court with Alito would feature seven white men, one white woman and a black man, who deserves an asterisk because he arguably does not represent the views of mainstream black America.

Because he does not hold the right ideas, Clarence Thomas is not considered a "real" African-American.

As cited in the article above, Black Democrats approve of tactics such as using racial epithets, throwing oreo cookies, and covering a portrait in black face as valid methods of ideological opposition to Michael S. Steele.

All of this is intended to whip those "uppity Negroes" who have the temerity and personal integrity to think for themselves, to show loyalty to their own self-determined values and ideologies rather than crawl to the liberal establishment as supplicants before the altar of skin color.

The Democratic Party has become nothing more than a gathering of intellectual overseers, bent upon chasing down and punishing ideological fugitives who have betrayed their race. This is an organization that has embraced racism and segregation full stop, with only vote tallies and partisan political advantage in mind.

It is not enough for an African-American to be accomplished in this country. They must be the "right kind" of African-American with the right kind of accomplishments. Otherwise, their skin color is not only a valid method of attack, but a preferred one.

How did the Democratic Party reach this place? How did they become such open racists and strong proponents of intellectual segregation? How did the Civil Rights movement within the party wither and die, only to give rise to the specter of identity politics and all the haunting injustices attendant?

How do so many self-described progressives and liberals who claim to be for the advancement of society along the path outlined by Dr. King, allow and encourage this kind of openly and virulently racist behavior?

African-Americans, the message being sent to you on the day of Rosa Parks' burial is this: Her ideals are being put in the ground with her. Stay on the ideological plantation or have your skin color used against you as punishment for seeking your constitutionally protected intellectual freedom.

Mrs. Parks will not be cold in the earth before she is spinning in the grave.

Update: I asked how Democrats and the Left reached this position. Ace of Spades answers the question perfectly.

I'm shocked. Well, not shocked at Democrat duplicity, that's par for the course. Especially this week. But I'm surprised this isn't bigger news. Is your mouth hanging open? Mine was. Somewhere, the Klan is doing a little jig. [Read More]

Robbie’s world: Majorities of Gays/African -American are just to stupid/juvenile to know which party/ideology to support…

Robbie's World: Where gays and African-Americans are free to support whichever party and ideology they wish without their skin color or sexuality being used to attack them.

But cheers on the reading comprehension.

Pointing out that the party/ideology you’ve attached yourself to is substantially lacking when it comes to protecting and promoting your rights as a minority is hardly a personal attack….

Tommy, did you read the article? They're not simply pointing out that they disagree with the Republican party. They are using the man's race to attack him.

It is never ever ok to use someone's skin color as a basis for attack. That is called racism. It's such a simple concept.

Could you imagine a white politician holding a press conferences calling a white Democratic politician a traitor to his race?

That kind of behavior is so not ok.

racism

n 1: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races 2: discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race [syn: racialism, racial discrimination]

Subjectively wrong maybe... but certainly not racist using the conventional def.

I really can't believe you're apologizing for and excusing this behavior. Is the racism so entrenched, you cannot even recognize it?

The man is being attacked on the basis of his skin color.

Your attitude just blows me away.

Truly.

And one other thing, Tommy. Going by your dictionary definition.

Do you know why people throw oreos at black conservatives? Because it symbolizing being black on the outside and being white on the inside.

Thinking like a white person is bad for black people to do.

That fits the definition quite nicely, I think.

so the African-American's in the article are being racist?

Yes, yes they are. When you use skin color or race as the primary basis for an attack, when you use racial slurs against someone, when you deride a black man as being "too white," you are being a racist.

So if I called George Wallace a "cracker" for supporting the laws that kept Rosa Parks at the back of the bus that would make me a racist?

Yes, yes it would. People who aren't racist don't use racial slurs as an attack on an opponent.

Robbie: I think you have single handedly expanded the def. of racism to include any criticism leveled by a member of a race at another member of the same race for deviating from standard/widely held beliefs.

Tommy, are you being purposefully disingenuous?

Where in any of my comments have I said it is racist for a person of one race to criticize a person of another race? Find the exact sentence where I even intimate such a thing.

I said it is racist to use a person's skin color in personal attacks. Just as no white or black politician should call anyone a nigger, nor should they throw oreos, call someone an Uncle Tom, or use any other racial epithet when arguing politics.

No one is entitled to call Condi Rice a nigger, just as no one is entitled to call George Wallace a cracker. Disagree with their politics, oppose their ideas.

Never, ever use their skin color as a method of attack.

That is racism.

I really don't know how to make this any simpler.

Robbie, I couldn't have said it better myself, and I was trying. You beat me to it! I did note one other sad coda to her life though.

it may be another ism, but it's not racism- a black person telling another black person they are "acting too white" is not the same as a white person using the n word because they think black people are inherently inferior... only silly "conservatives" who try and tear down liberals records on race relations, because they have no record to build up, would equate them

It is showing hostility to perceived "whiteness," which is racism.

I give up. Honestly. It absolutely floors me, this inability to understand this.

Tommy wrote: " Robbie’s world: Majorities of Gays/African -American are just to stupid/juvenile to know which party/ideology to support…". I can't help it. I don't want to, but, yes, I do. I'm an evil rightwinger from the gay darkside. It's "Gays/African-AmericanS" and it's "TOO stupid/juvenile", not "to stupid/juvenile". As for the rest, Tommy leaves me speechless.
