» Dems give racism a big o-tay! from reverse_vampyr
I'm shocked. Well, not shocked at Democrat duplicity, that's par for the course. Especially this week. But I'm surprised this isn't bigger news. Is your mouth hanging open? Mine was. Somewhere, the Klan is doing a little jig. [Read More]

Tommy

Robbie’s world: Majorities of Gays/African -American are just to stupid/juvenile to know which party/ideology to support…

Robbie

Robbie's World: Where gays and African-Americans are free to support whichever party and ideology they wish without their skin color or sexuality being used to attack them.

But cheers on the reading comprehension.

Tommy

Pointing out that the party/ideology you’ve attached yourself to is substantially lacking when it comes to protecting and promoting your rights as a minority is hardly a personal attack….

Robbie

Tommy, did you read the article? They're not simply pointing out that they disagree with the Republican party. They are using the man's race to attack him.

It is never ever ok to use someone's skin color as a basis for attack. That is called racism. It's such a simple concept.

Could you imagine a white politician holding a press conferences calling a white Democratic politician a traitor to his race?

That kind of behavior is so not ok.

Tommy

racism

n 1: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races 2: discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race [syn: racialism, racial discrimination]

Tommy

Subjectively wrong maybe... but certainly not racist using the conventional def.

Robbie

I really can't believe you're apologizing for and excusing this behavior. Is the racism so entrenched, you cannot even recognize it?

The man is being attacked on the basis of his skin color.

Your attitude just blows me away.

Truly.

Robbie

And one other thing, Tommy. Going by your dictionary definition.

Do you know why people throw oreos at black conservatives? Because it symbolizing being black on the outside and being white on the inside.

Thinking like a white person is bad for black people to do.

That fits the definition quite nicely, I think.

Tommy

so the African-American's in the article are being racist?

Robbie

Yes, yes they are. When you use skin color or race as the primary basis for an attack, when you use racial slurs against someone, when you deride a black man as being "too white," you are being a racist.

Tommy

So if I called George Wallace a "cracker" for supporting the laws that kept Rosa Parks at the back of the bus that would make me a racist?

Robbie

Yes, yes it would. People who aren't racist don't use racial slurs as an attack on an opponent.

Tommy

Robbie: I think you have single handedly expanded the def. of racism to include any criticism leveled by a member of a race at another member of the same race for deviating from standard/widely held beliefs.

Robbie

Tommy, are you being purposefully disingenuous?

Where in any of my comments have I said it is racist for a person of one race to criticize a person of another race? Find the exact sentence where I even intimate such a thing.

I said it is racist to use a person's skin color in personal attacks. Just as no white or black politician should call anyone a nigger, nor should they throw oreos, call someone an Uncle Tom, or use any other racial epithet when arguing politics.

No one is entitled to call Condi Rice a nigger, just as no one is entitled to call George Wallace a cracker. Disagree with their politics, oppose their ideas.

Never, ever use their skin color as a method of attack.

That is racism.

I really don't know how to make this any simpler.

Don

Robbie, I couldn't have said it better myself, and I was trying. You beat me to it! I did note one other sad coda to her life though.

tommy

it may be another ism, but it's not racism- a black person telling another black person they are "acting too white" is not the same as a white person using the n word because they think black people are inherently inferior... only silly "conservatives" who try and tear down liberals records on race relations, because they have no record to build up, would equate them

Robbie

It is showing hostility to perceived "whiteness," which is racism.

I give up. Honestly. It absolutely floors me, this inability to understand this.

I'm an evil rightwinger from the gay darkside. It's "Gays/African-AmericanS" and it's "TOO stupid/juvenile", not "to stupid/juvenile". As for the rest, Tommy leaves me speechless.
