A Helping of Reality, Hold the Lobster

The gays are obviously a staple of reality television, but it is rare that such programs actually talk about the "reality" of being gay.

That's why I was touched by a conversation on last night's "Project Runway" about Daniel Vosovic's coming-out.  It was by all accounts a moment of insight and true emotion.

But then we were immediately whip-sawed into whimsy with Santino Rice's spot-on impersonation of the show's emotionally constipated fashion godfather, Tim Gunn.  (Santino's Michael Kors shtick is just as razor-sharp.)

If you're a fan of the show like me, it was one of the funniest moments in reality TV this year – even on the second viewing.

My God, Santino looks like Jesus in homo drag. :)

I was totally just going to say that. Dammit, you beat me to blasphemy, NDT. Whoodathunkit?

LOL....ask Malcontent, Jack. The best blasphemers in the world are kids in church and religious school choirs who are made to sing repetitive hymns, often in a language you don't understand, over and over and over again. It tends to lend itself to creative lyrics and irreverence. :)

Oh my god, you have just made my morning. I usually have to wait till Sunday to watch Project Runway (I don't have Bravo, so I have to wait till either someone uploads it through Torrents or I go to someone's house that has DVR) and I've been dying to see this Daniel clip and this Red Lobster part! Thank you so much!

Well, it's always fun watching the socially and emotionally autistic self-destruct. Santino's "fuck you, I'm an artiste" shtick may be great reality TV, but back in the real world where's the talent to back it up? It's one of the running pleasures of the show watching "emotionally constipated" Tim politely (but lethally) call the ever-oblivious Santino on his crap.

the bonus vid gives more of the convo between daniel, nick, and chloe. you're right it was touching. santino getting caught, yeah, that was good.

Thanks so much for the video! I missed this episode. Santino posing is priceless.
