New Rufus

Rufus1

Rufus2

Malbug_13Rufus Wainwright's video for "The Maker Makes" from the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack debuted at midnight last night on Logo's "NewNowNext."

The haunting song about longing in the face of divine ambivalence is juxtaposed with images from the movie, along with simple visuals of Wainwright at a piano, and in close-up against monotone black and white backgrounds.  In a brief interview segment before the video, Wainwright explains that the song is as much about the nation's current political climate as it is a commentary on the characters in Brokeback.

The high-res version is sampled at twice the normal bitrate.  Enjoy.  [Thanks, Celeste!]

Rufus is Johnny Weir's older twin brother. Same voice, same face, just older.

will somebody please give that boy a kleenex so he can blow his damned nose ?

Rufus was robbed of an Oscar by the decision not to use this song during the film or at the start of closing credits, which rendered it ineligible. I'm sure that occured to Focus Films when "It's Tough Out Here For A Pimp" walked away with the Oscar.

G*d - I love you guys! Have I mentioned that enough? You post the best, best, best stuff at the highest quality, and just exactly what I always want to see. I'm so glad to be some small part of your world here. Did I mention I love you guys?

Oh - and the video was awesome, too. Thanks.

fucking beautiful song!!

PLEASE tell me that this will be released on the DVD on April 4th!!!
Wow!

Dear God, it was painful listening to that song. RW is so fucking overated. 3 notes and a whiny voice do not make a genius.

To this day, I find the best Rufus performance to be his "Hallelujah" from the Shrek soundtrack. His voice only works with certain kinds of music. He was really decent in Moulin Rouge as well, all "black and white documentary about a French cafe along the Seine" tones.

Great song, but Rufus looks really rough :( Anyway, can't wait to see his Jude Garland tribute concert at Carnegie Hall in June.
