Anderson Cooper used his Yale commencement speech to bolster his studliness. "The only thing about high school I remember is my senior prom," the CNN anchor said. "If what I remember is true, it is very possible that some of you are my children, especially you with the blue eyes and freakishly gray hair"
That wily Anderson, always craving the poonanny. Uh huh.
well now... it's POSSIBLE that some women accidentally rubbed up against the jizz trail that anderson left in the limo.. that is, IF his memory serves him correctly that there were any women in there that night...IF.

and now he's bestest friends in the world with The Woman Who Controls the World and Who We Dare Not Name Here. I don't really understand, though, why someone who has some power and prestige can't say 'yep i am.' i mean, if he were a low level reporter at a local network affilliate, i could almost, almost understand his playing straight, and it's not as if he's an anchor for the 700 Club, so it isn't as if he'd lose his job...

yeah.. i don't really get it either. his excuse that knowing about his personal life would somehow affect his reporting negatively is weak. i suppose he might lose some female fans if he came out.. and str8 guys might take him less seriously... gee.. maybe he's right to just stay a little mysterious after all.. haha

Well, I think there's something to be said for professional integrity, and I absolutely defend his decision--if there be one--to not pander to trolls like Michael Musto (who has already reached the pinnacle of his career, such as it is) who think that everyone in the public eye has an obligation to be as “open” and obnoxious as he is.
But AC is not the host of American Idol, or the owner of a boutique salon; indeed, he’s in an occupation that stresses detachment from the material he presents and where objectivity is (or is supposed to be) a primary goal. Unfortunately for those of us in today’s world, there once was a time when news programs were about news and not personalities, so that when you have your primary work effort named after you, perhaps it practically begs inquiry as to the person behind the name of the show. Still, he can take a cue from Who We Dare Not Name Here, who has publicly mentioned her personal lack of enthusiasm for marriage, is often referred to as “single” and yet is known for a long-term relationship with a person described as her “boyfriend”. It doesn’t take a 60 Minutes investigative team to figure out that she’s essentially “living in sin”, yet that conclusion almost never comes up in the public media. So, AC could do a similar coy modus operandi, if he chooses.
That said, it doesn’t help his case--nor dissuade speculation about his private life-- when he attempts to butch it up by making junior high comments like the one above (at an Ivy League commencement address, no less).

Come to think, isn't ABC's Ron Corning also gay. Not as visible or well known as Anderson, but is Ron openly gay?

Heh... maybe we should just call her "She-who-must-not-be-named" and let the implications fall where they may.

Take a memo Anderson: The line for hitting on co-ed 'tang (or campus cock, for that matter) is "Who's your daddy' not 'Luke, I am your father'.
And, Scott, I agree with you that Cooper is under no obligation to be "open" about his sexual orientation either way. But if he wants to avoid speculation of that nature, making like a third-rate Chris Rock at a high profile (and public) speaking engagement is an odd way to go about it.

i understand the fact that he is a serious journalist and he has to retain his objectivity and ultimately, not become the story. That being said, why then was he on HER show the only day shilling for his new book and making a very very public deal out of his brother's troubled life and suicide, even so much as drag out his dear old mum to talk about it and how she deals with her son andy being in harm's way when he reports from war zones and such...

Man, he's as big a snatch magnet as Kevin Spacey!

Many of us experiment in college. No shame in it.

What a complete jerk! "I don't talk about my personal life." No, but I can crack wise at the Yale Commencement about how I laid the entire cheerleading squad. Notice his comment doesn't say, "one of you could be my child." It's plural. Either he's bragging about his hetero-studliness or confessing to rampant drug use in high school (too many 'shrooms there Andy?).

good point, guys... the oh-so-private anderson has no problem spilling his guts about his bro and mom and can joke about how he MAY have hit a whole bunch of poon in his mind-altered school days ... but to simply state that he's gay.. nah.. WAY too personal.
Posted by: el polacko | May 26, 2006 at 03:35 PM
Yeah, I'll be the first to agree it's all rather bizarre and incongruous...it does beg for him to be on the receiving end of some bitch-slapping.
But if he wants to avoid speculation of that nature, making like a third-rate Chris Rock at a high profile (and public) speaking engagement is an odd way to go about it.
No argument from me, Craig!
At least Kevin Spacey largely keeps his mouth shut (and lets the tabloid photos of him frolicking in public parks in LA with a boy toy speak for themselves).

Ron Corning's gay? Wow, I always wondered why I just wanted him to crawl into bed with me after he gets through with World News This Morning...

Come on, guys. That shit Anderson Vanderbilt dumped on those hung-over Yalies was a bald face lie. He's never laid anyone genetically capable of delivering human offspring. That said, looking over an audience of inbred uber rich Yalies, well...you connect the dots.
Somewhere up above, Scott indicated that journalists attempt to remain detached from the material they present. Indeed they do. But what does journalism have to do with what goes on at CNN? Those CNN bitches (yes, that means Anderson Vanderbilt, too) fall over themselves injecting their opinions into every matter from the weather to immigration to Katrina. The one thing that they aren't are journalists. They are news readers, opinion givers, and mindless bleached-teeth, made-up models, but they are not journalists. There's hardly anything that resembles journalism on CNN.
If you want journalism, check out a newspaper or the BBC. AV should reveal all that he is and all that he does, from his morning bathroom routine to how many licks it takes till Caesar pops a nut. He's no different than the rest of the CNN bitches.

What is with the fantasy/fascination thing guys have toward AndersonC and RobCorning? Anderson is a 24 carat flake --and a jerk if he did say that in front of a commencement crowd. All tv newsreaders are ego-centric drama queens, that doesn't make them automatically gay.
Gheesh, guys, quite the daydreaming and move on to something of merit.
